New Jersey man pleads guilty to Medicare scam

A 54-year-old man recently plead guilty in the U.S. District Court in Trenton to posing as a fake physician in order to write prescriptions for elderly and homebound people.

According to investigators, the man created a center called Visiting Doctors of New Jersey and hired several professional doctors and nurses to take care of elderly patients. However, the doctors and nurses quit because the man failed to pay them. The man then posed as a physician himself, using the doctors' names and social security numbers, and proceeded to examine hundreds of patients. The man wrote prescriptions for his patients and then billed Medicare for his services.

The man is facing up to ten years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for healthcare fraud, as well as two years in prison for aggravated identity theft.
