Lower domestic violence deaths in Wisconsin

by Administrator 28. September 2011 07:06

A new report from the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence shows that domestic violence deaths in the state have decreased from 2009. In 2010, there were 58 fatalities compared to 67 in 2009. 2009 marked a ten-year high in domestic violence deaths.

However, the coalition warns that ending domestic violence is far from over. Nearly 29% of all homicides in Wisconsin last year were as a result of domestic violence. In 2010, twelve children were orphaned or left without a mother. On average, 57% of the victims were woman. Half of all the domestic violence homicides involved victims who had left a relationship or were trying to end one. Domestic violence is not limited to spouses and couples- victims ranged in age from less than a year-old to 87 years-old.
