A Wisconsin law stating that people who have been convicted of violent crimes are not allowed to own firearms for the rest of their lives was recently challenged in a court. The law was challenged by a lawyer who was defending a previous felon who was charged with a firearm offense.

The man had been convicted of a felony theft in 1983. He completed his jail sentence and probation. Last year, he was charged with the illegal possession of firearms because he was a previous felon. The man's lawyer argued that the law only applies to violent felonies in Wisconsin, and felony theft is not a violent crime.

A review of the lawyer's motion will go to court this week in front of a county judge.

A man from Washington Park, Illinois was recently arrested and charged with a weapons offense for possessing a firearm.

The 22-year-old man was found with firearms by police officers in early March, and he has been previously convicted for other charges. A St. Louis federal grand jury indicted the man with the unlawful possession of a firearm. An investigation into the case has also been restarted by the Illinois Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

If the man is convicted of the charges against him, he could spend ten years in prison and be ordered to pay a fine of at least $250,000.
