A 25-year-old woman from Iowa was recently charged with committing perjury by filing a false report of sexual assault to law enforcement officers. The woman has also been accused of running an adoption scam to extort money from people hoping to adopt a baby.
According to reports, the woman filed a report in April under a false name, claiming that she had been sexually assaulted. Upon investigation, police found that the woman had filed a false report, and she was charged with filing a false crime and suborning perjury. She will face the charges against her in a trial by jury on August 1.
Although the woman will not be formally charged with extortion in addition to the perjury charges, police discovered that the woman had also lied about being pregnant to couples who were hoping to adopt her baby. She received money and food from the couples before they discovered that she was not pregnant.
