Milwaukee County Sheriff's Dept. Charged With Fixing DNA Problems

by Administrator 30. December 2009 09:26

Because of recent problems with the storage and collection of DNA samples, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department has been forced to assess the staffing and procedures used in it's crime labs. Following reports of the state's failure to collect DNA samples of thousands of felons for the state data base, a committee of officials from the Department of Justice and the Department of Corrections were tasked with recovering the samples.

County sheriffs have been collecting samples from individuals and have stated that they are still looking for about 500 individuals who failed to submit samples after their convictions.

Teen Girl Gets Jail Sentence

by Administrator 24. July 2009 02:18

A 19 year-old teenage girl from Menasha is facing 9 months in jail and five years of probation after recently being sentenced for a home robbery in which she allegedly stole a large sum of cash.  Authorities believe she stole nearly $30,000 from a home after being told by a co-worker of an individual bragging about a large stash of money at the house.

The money that was taken had been saved up for years to help pay for the college tuition of a family member.  So far, only about $2000 has been recovered.  On top of possible jail time,  the teenager will be required to pay $33,000 in restitution to the family for the lost money.

Murders in Wisconsin Down for the Year

by Administrator 26. June 2009 04:48

The number of murders that took place in Wisconsin are fewer than the year before.  This is good news for the state, as it shows a slight improvement in the reduction of crime.

The drop in homicides for 2008 was 20% less than the previous year. This means that a drop in 18 homicides took place for the year.  Research will look into what caused this drop in homicides.  Some officials believe that it was increased law enforcement efforts.

Racine Man Will Not Face Criminal Charges

by Administrator 15. May 2009 03:50

A Racine man will not face criminal charges for an incident in which he pulled a gun out in front of a group of teenagers.  The District Attorney has decided that he will not seek charges against the man.

The incident took place  on May 1st. The man was riding his bicycle when a group of teenagers knocked him off of it.  The man then claims that he feared that he was going to be robbed, so he pulled a gun out of a holster he had.  The man then raised the gun in the air,  and yelled "Gun".  The teens scattered and the man then flagged down a police officer passing by.  The man had minor injuries from the fall and was treated for them.  The police followed him home and returned his gun.

Charges were possibly pending because the man was within 1,000 feet of a school, which is a gun free zone.  It was decided that those charges will not happen.
