Kevin Kozak, second-in-command at the California Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, was shot six times on Thursday evening by a fellow supervisory agent, Ezequiel Garcia, in the Long Beach office.
Garcia opened fire on Kozak using his service weapon in what is said by F.B.I officials as a result of a heated argument over Garcia's performance counseling. A third agent shot and killed Garcia to prevent further shots fired at Kozak. Kozak is at a local hospital in stable condition.
Claude Arnold, the special agent in charge for I.C.E. in Los Angeles, stated, “This is the first time anything of this nature has occurred within I.C.E."
Criminal activity has occurred on other occasions within I.C.E. when officers and agents have been accused of improper relationships with informants and convicted in embezzlement cases.
