Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was attacked by a man using a metal pipe Sunday. A spokesperson for the Milwaukee Police Department said Barrett was in stable condition at a local hospital.
At the time of the attack, the mayor was trying to help a grandmother who called out for help at the Wisconsin State Fair. After the attack, police officials said the attacker was intoxicated and threatened to shoot himself and others.
Police officials arrested Anthony Peters later Sunday night as a suspect in the investigation.
