Georgia Lawyers Charged with Theft

by Administrator 22. August 2008 08:08
Defense attorneys Candace Rader and Valerie Cooke of Carroll County, GA, have been charged with stealing a murdered man's possessions. The two attorneys represented the man's wife, Debra Post, when she was accused of killing him in 2002. According to the charges, Rader and Cooke knowingly took property that had belonged to Post's late husband as payment for their legal services. Allegedly the stolen property was worth more than $320,000. Rader and Cooke are being tried under Georgia's "slayer's statute," which says that a person who commits murder cannot inherit anything from his or her victim. Post has confessed to her husband's murder and is currently serving a life sentence.
