New shelter for domestic abuse victims opens

Susan Bird-Winbun of Reedsburg is in the process of creating a domestic violence shelter and healing/rehabilitation program for abuse victims.  Bird-Winbun lost both of her children when her former boyfriend, David Yates, was convicted of killing her infant twins, Tyler and Susannah.

The name of the new organization is called the Fairy House Foundation.  According to Bird-Winbun, "We want to be more personalized and offer one-on-one services from beginning to end for our victims."  Teenage girls and woman make up the majority of her 25 clients.  They are still looking for a location in the Reedsburg, Baraboo, and Wisconsin Dells area to build a shelter for abuse victims.

There is another organization similar to Fairy House Foundation for victims of domestic violence in the south central Wisconsin area called Hope House.  What's most important, according to Ellen Allen of Hope House, is "...to be very cautious about duplicating any services we offer in our small communities, because the funding is already stretched so much."
