The complexity of the insantiy plea

by Administrator 4. January 2010 04:57

While it is rarely used, the insanity defense is one of the most complex defenses in criminal law. The validity of the insanity plea is often debated for a number of reasons.

For instance, some critics of the plea often suggest that the plea gives criminals a way to escape harsher punishments. On the other hand, pundits who support the insanity plea believe it fits in line with the United States system of justice.

It adds complexity to criminal law because juries must determine whether the defendant is actually insanse. If you or anyone you know has been charged with a crime and is considering the insanity plea, contact the Appleton criminal defense attorneys of Kohler, Hart, & Priebe, LLP, at 888-565-7597.
