What is a Deposition?

In many criminal cases, witnesses and even defendants are asked to give a deposition. A deposition is a form of oral testimony submitted as evidence to the court. Depositions are typically video or audio recordings made outside of court in a lawyer’s office or other facility, often with both sides present. The deposition is later transcribed and presented in court.
