A 39-year-old Appleton resident has recently been sentenced to 12 years in prison plus eight years of extended supervision for sexually abusing his 3-year-old daughter
The man pleaded no contest in June 2013 to the charge of first-degree child sex assault, a felony with a maximum 60 year sentence.
Assistant District Attorney Peter Hahn said that the defendant claimed that the three-year-old girl initiated the sexual contact. The man requested for mental health treatment to be included as part of his sentence along with his incarceration.
Outagamie County Judge Mitchell Metropulos said the defendant may be playing up his mental illness “either to gain sympathy or to deflect the severity of his acts, which is problematic when we’re dealing with sexual deviancy”.
According to the criminal complaint filed in June 2012, the victim said her father liked to “play doctor” by exposing himself and touching her private areas.
